Omens

Washington was identified this week as a state likely to gain an additional congressional seat after the 2010 census. Of all the states listed, Washington is the only Democratic one, all the rest are mostly Republican. Still states are not entirely monolithic in the political cultures so one can always hope that progressives will capture some of the new seats. That's better than expecting the worst from my fellow Americans, even if the worst is too often the case.

The news is not all good for Washington, however. About eight paragraphs down is this quote,
...[T]the state picked up 100,000 people in the past year, a 13 percent gain that makes the state the 13th most populous, with an estimated 6.66 million residents.

Those are some pretty evil sounding numbers. Maybe it's a sign that Washington accepted the mark of Satan when it adopted equal rights for all partnerships.
