A Very Sobering Thought
M.K. Bhadrakumar in Asia Times Online, on the UN resolution on Libya:
In sum, we are standing somewhere at a similar threshold to the US invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, which began as aerial operations to back up Northern Alliance [NA] militia, supplemented by special forces operations, and was later legitimized as a ground presence.
We all know how that one worked out.
This time will be different?
postscript
The Afghanistan war may have legal sanction but I would not call it legitimate. I think Bhadrakumar uses the word in the context of recognized legal authority. I read the word with that meaning and it in no way changes the meaning of his statement.
