Double Whammy on a Trifecta

Sometimes Dana Milbank's snark is wearing and dismissive but when he is on target, like today's profile of Mississippi governor Haley Barbour,Milbank tells the pointed truth. Not only does he place Barbour as the Ultimate DC Insider. Milbank also he sends up the whole sordid affair of special interest influence in Washington.

postscript

Milbank is, of course, is entrenched in the Washington Insider mindset to the extent that he thinks that he considers Dennis Kucinich's efforts to spark Congressional debate on the Afghanistan occupation as irresponsible as the Republican jihad against NPR.

A Very Sobering Thought

M.K. Bhadrakumar in Asia Times Online, on the UN resolution on Libya:
In sum, we are standing somewhere at a similar threshold to the US invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, which began as aerial operations to back up Northern Alliance [NA] militia, supplemented by special forces operations, and was later legitimized as a ground presence.

We all know how that one worked out.

This time will be different?

postscript

The Afghanistan war may have legal sanction but I would not call it legitimate. I think Bhadrakumar uses the word in the context of recognized legal authority. I read the word with that meaning and it in no way changes the meaning of his statement.
